Light Painting (LO 2,3)
Let’s have a bit of fun! This short blog is about a technique called “light painting”. It’s all about a long exposure.
For all my images I used my Nikon Z6 camera, zoom lens 24-70mm, f/2.8S, a light source and most importantly a tripod.
This creative technique is based on setting up a long exposure (a very slow shutter speed). Because the images are taken in dark or a low light environment, a long exposure is crucial to let enough light to reach the camera. I set up my shutter speed for around 10 seconds. I didn’t go for a longer exposure because I was capturing my son and a dog. They would not be able to stay still and as a result they would be very blurry. That was not my aim in this case.
Please go to my blog Roads in Nature to read more about the light painting technique.
I used my iphone as a light source. The images have been edited in Lightroom.
Image 1: 10s, f/22.0, ISO 100, zoom lens 24-70mm, f/2.8S
Image 2: 10s, f/14.0, ISO 100, zoom lens 24-70mm, f/2.8S
Image 3: 10s, f/22.0, ISO 100, zoom lens 24-70mm, f/2.8S
Image 4: 8s, f/22.0, ISO 100, zoom lens 24-70mm, f/2.8S
I have to say we had fun creating these images and playing with light. Next time I would use a small torch light (instead of iphone light) to avoid capturing the images of my iphone in some pictures.
